"It Matters."

“I am only one, but I am one. I cannot do everything, but I can do something. What I can do, I should do and, with the help of God, I will do!” – Everett Hale.

Life, couple of decades ago, was well lived. Man doesn’t ride luxurious vehicles, yet they reach the place they opt to go. He doesn’t use an air conditioner to at ease himself from a tepid room. He simply stays under the shade of the tree and then he ends up satisfied with the breeze of the air. He doesn’t have to use spray nets and other cosmetic materials containing Chlorofluorocarbons yet he remains handsome and fine-looking. He doesn’t use plastic cups, spoons, forks, and plates yet he could go on picnic with a lot of packed foods. Plastic bags do not exist, yet he could go to market and buy what is needed. On the other hand, life at present seems too complicated. We are now irritated by the inexorable news in relation to Global warming, Global Dimming, Climate Change, Soil Erosion, Soil Contamination, Forest fires, Pollutions and all other predicaments that causes the destruction of the environment. Now, come to think about it, don’t you think it’s time to take action concerning the place we live in?

Each and every one of us is entitled of spectacular roles and functions regarding the safeguarding of the place we all call our home – the Earth. We do not lay so much attention with this, but all men are obliged to abide with the rules of our surroundings. Yes, Mother Earth could not be able to air out nor jot down her regulations, but her laws exist. Due to our insensitive habits, we ravage her commands so now we are punished. We are so cruel that we boorishly throw our thrash anywhere we wish to. We cut the trees on the forest like it will grow back after we did it. We use plastics and Styrofoam time and again without even a thought that it couldn’t be decomposed at all. We run our cars down the road frequently without even noticing the dirty gases it emit. We do this and that with no second thoughts at all, and what’s heartrending is that we do it for the reason that we like it and for the reason that we don’t care.

Since it is not the end of the world yet, then it purports the thought of doing something as early as possible. It may not be easy to immediately change our ways of living, but it would be done if we do it step by step. Starting from the basic, we could reuse, reduce, and recycle. Garbage will surely vanish from time to time if we keep on doing the 3R’s. Instead of jaunting to school or to work with a car, why not ride with the bike? If it is considered a hassle, maybe we could still do it for at least twice a week. We should also start segregating the biodegradable from non-biodegradable. Cutting down of trees must be banned. We should turn off faucets when not in use, we should use incandescent bulbs for the lightning in the house, and there’s a lot more of simple things that we could do only if we discipline ourselves.

In view of the fact that we are the consequence of our own choices and the upshot of our actions, then all the havocs that had happened recently regarding the environment must be laid attention to. Our single deeds would definitely contribute a lot so we could achieve the whopping changes in our lives if only we help each other. In the end, it still lingers to play outside the rain knowing that you have the most of what the Environment could give because whatever you do, our Home matters, it does.
